FORT FAIRFIELD — Two local men were injured in a single-vehicle accident on the South Caribou Road Saturday afternoon.

The Fort Fairfield Police Department was notified around 1:30 p.m. of a pick-up truck that had left the road on Route 161, also known as the South Caribou Road.

“Upon arrival, I found an early model Chevy pickup had left the road and struck a tree. The truck was being driven by Leo Rideout, 48, of Fort Fairfield,” said the investigating officer, Brady Henderson, FFPD.

First responders with Aroostook Fire Protection District 1 had to use hydraulic equipment to extricate Rideout’s passenger.

“Larry Doody, 58, of Woodland, was a passenger in the truck. Due to the way the truck hit the tree, Doody had to wait for emergency personnel to extricate him from the vehicle,” said Henderson.

Both men were transported by Crown Ambulance to Cary Medical Center in Caribou for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Henderson said the cause of the accident remains under investigation.
