Community college system names All-Maine Academic team

AUGUSTA, Maine — The Maine Community College System has named 20 students to the All-Maine Academic Team in recognition of outstanding academic achievement, leadership and service.

The award includes a $500 scholarship from the system’s board of trustees. Individual colleges will honor their respective students at events later this spring.  

Rachel Driscoll and Maranda Campbell, both of Washburn, received the awards from Northern Maine Community College in Presque Isle.

Other recipients included the following.

Central Maine Community College: Zakiya Sheikh, Lewiston; Tyler  Hayes, Waldoboro; Rusty Vining, Auburn; and Benjamin Creznic, Wilton.

Eastern Maine Community College: Alyson Reynolds, Glenburn; LaTeicia  Pendergast, Bangor; and Edward Fontaine, Mexico.

Kennebec Valley Community College: Kellie  Wiswell, Clinton; Stephanie Corliss, Augusta; Kaytlynn Gallant, Fairfield; and Lazell Giggie, Brooks.

Southern Maine Community College: Lilit Danielyan, Portland; and Dawn Babb, Limerick.

Washington County Community College: Cindy Rier, East Machias; Gloria Tinker, Lubec; and Briggette Newell, Perry.

York County Community College: Patricia Schaffer and Kelly Gower, Lebanon, York County Community College.

In addition, Gower and Rier earned Maine New Century Scholars recognition for achieving the highest scores in the state on their All-USA Academic Team applications.

The All-Maine Academic Team is a program of Phi Theta Kappa, an international honor society for two-year colleges. Students are nominated and selected for the team by their college.
