WOODLAND, Maine — Selectmen unanimously agreed April 23 to pay RLC Energy, LLC of Fort Fairfield nearly $10,000 to install LED lights in the Woodland municipal building and garage.
Town Clerk Janet Schofield suggested at the Select Board’s April 8 meeting checking with the Efficiency Maine Program about changing the building’s lights. The minutes from that meeting indicate that while the town had already obtained an estimate, the “board of selectmen asked for one more estimate to compare.”
A resident during the April 23 meeting asked about the cost to the town. The board authorized paying RLC Energy $9,382.50, not including tax, but Schofield said it would cost the town “about $5,600” out of pocket after municipal officials apply for a rebate. That will cover the entire building, including the shop, which will save the town a significant amount of money in electrical costs, she said.
Select Board Chair Carl Grant said the lights might save the town $2,000 in annual electric costs.
After discussing bids, selectman Tom Drew said he felt the most comfortable with the first bid from RLC Energy.
“It’s a good, honest bid,” he said, “and it’s right upfront.”
The selectmen then discussed which account to use to pay for the lights, and decided on the Building Repair Reserve account which, according to Woodland Tax Collector Amber Moutinho, currently contains $18,684.
They then unanimously approved the RLC Energy bid.
