Mapleton Lions Auction Chair Matt Gregg said the club’s annual auction is set to go this Saturday, May 4, at 6 p.m. at the Mapleton Lions Hall.
Nearly 400 items, services and gift certificates will be auctioned, he said, adding that for the first time, folks can view the auction catalog online. Using the following Internet address, https://greggauctions.hibid.com/catalog/165713/2019-mapleton-lions-auction/.
Gregg is chair and organizers of the auction, and will also serve as one of the two auctioneers. This year bidders may pay with Visa or Mastercard.

Remember there will be a wide range of items, including a hot air balloon flight for two, oil changes, some new ratchet wrenches, restaurant certificates, a subscription to The Star-Herald and much more.
Saturday’s event will be the 57th annual Lions auction, which is the second oldest charity auction in central Aroostook. Club members are now completing their solicitation of auction items. Proceeds will support the club’s charitable activities.
Lions President Adam Nicak said the auction is the club’s single largest fundraising event, with approximately 70 percent of the club’s annual income coming in on this one evening. Donations are always welcome. Any Lions Club member will be willing to accept your donation for the support of their projects.
The Lions will serve their traditional public ham and bean dinner prior to the auction, from 4:30 to 6 p.m., also at the hall. The auction will begin immediately after the dinner, with Gregg and fellow member Ron Leonard as auctioneers.
Everyone is encouraged to come out and support the Lions Club in their annual fundraising evening.
Memorial Day Preparations
The Lions are preparing for the annual Mapleton Lions Club Memorial Day Parade and Remembrance Ceremony on Monday, May 27.
The parade will start lining up at 1:30 p.m. and will step off at 2. Please keep in mind this is a community parade.
All organizations, groups and individuals who would like to march in the parade are welcome to join in during the lineup. To join the parade, simply report to the parade line-up area which is the Dudley Road at the end of Main Street. No reservation is necessary to be in the parade.
The recent spring thaw and rains created a significant washout on Mapleton’s Hughes Road. The road was closed for a short while, but is now open as a one-lane, traffic-controlled road. Drivers are advised to be careful traveling the Hughes Road until the road is restored.

The Mapleton Remembrance Ceremony will be held at the Mapleton-Chapman-Castile Hill Veterans Memorial Monument at Mapleton Elementary School. Everyone is welcome to attend and remember the sacrifices of the veterans from the three towns.
First Friday Lunch
May flowers are getting ready to bloom and the monthly First Friday luncheon will be held Friday, May 3, at 11:30 a.m. at the Mapleton Methodist Church. Spring will be in full swing and the chefs will are planning a spring surprise luncheon.
While the food will be a delicious surprise, the real joy is sharing a meal with longtime friends as well as making new friends, sharing family updates, and telling stories about all the snow we had this winter.
Remember there is no charge for the lunch, but donations will be accepted.
Seniors lunch
The next regular Seniors Lunch is scheduled for this coming Monday, May 6, 2019. This will be a potluck lunch at the Mapleton Methodist Church at 11:30 a.m.
All seniors are welcome to attend. Just bring something for the potluck and your place setting. There is no charge to attend and enjoy the meal and the following activity. At this meeting, the seniors will begin planning their food sale, on tap during the Mapleton Lions Club’s Memorial Day Parade.
