This coming Monday the Mapleton, Chapman and Castle Hill Memorial Day remembrance ceremony will be held at the Veterans Memorial in front of the Mapleton Elementary School, hosted by the Mapleton Lions Club.
The brief program will include patriotic music, the placing of wreaths by each stone and an inspirational playing of “Taps” to close the ceremony. Everyone (veteran or non-veteran) is welcome to attend and share in remembering the sacrifices of the veterans from the three towns.
Prior to the Remembrance Ceremony, the annual Memorial Day Parade will take place. The Lions will also host the parade, which will be led by Parade Grand Marshal Chief Master Sargent Kelly S. Hoffses who is the Maine State Command Chief of the 101st Air Refueling Wing of the Maine Air National Guard. Hoffses grew up in Mapleton and is the daughter of Dennis and Myra Hoffses.

What makes the Memorial Day Parade a community parade is the participation of many organizations, community groups, churches and other interested individuals. No registration is necessary. Parade entries only need to report to the parade line-up area which is the Dudley Road at the end of Main Street and join in. Lions Club members will be present to assist.
Food Sale
The Mapleton, Chapman and Castle Hill Seniors will hold a food sale on Memorial Day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (or until everything is sold). They will be located in front of the Mapleton Methodist Church. The short list of goodies for sale will be baked beans, homemade bread, cupcakes, regular and miniature pies, brownies and a wide assortment of home baked cookies. There will other goodies to be found at the sale.
Funds raised from the food sale will be donated to the Aroostook House of Comfort.
The next regular seniors lunch will have Rick Duncan as guest speaker on the House of Comfort. He will talk about the development of the house and its services. The next senior meeting is scheduled for Monday, June 39. This will be a potluck lunch at the Mapleton Methodist Church at 11:30 a.m. All seniors are welcome to attend. Just bring something for the potluck and your place setting. There is no charge to attend and enjoy the meal.

Daze Planning Underway
Several organizations and groups are actively planning their events for Mapleton Daze. The Mapleton Lions Club are readying the Lions Hall, which serves as the hub for many events over the five days of the festival.
The Lions Club will host the Friday evening (June 28) Chicken Bar-B-Q and the Saturday Evening Baked Bean Dinners. They are expecting big crowds for both events as the food will be tasty and served rain or shine.
The three towns’ five churches are planning for their Saturday morning free breakfast, consisting of breakfast sandwiches, coffee, juice and milk. Serving will start at 7:30 a.m. beside the Mapleton Post Office. The churches encourage everyone to come, enjoy the breakfast, sit for a spell, visit with old friends or make new friends.
Additionally, the Mapleton, Chapman and Castle Hill churches invite folks to come and enjoy an evening of inspiration and fun for all ages featuring desserts and the magic of Brad Brown. Brown is an internationally known Christian magician who has a heart for ministry. His show combines his side-splitting comedy and mind-blowing magic to engage and entertain audiences, while clearly presenting gospel truth.
The show is free. Doors open at the Mapleton Lions Hall at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 30.
The Mapleton United Methodist Women will provide delicious pie and coffee on Friday evening at the Lions Chicken Bar-B-Q that can be topped with homemade ice cream churned by the Mapleton Baptist Church.
The Baptist Church will provide a rest area for people attending the Mapleton Daze Fun Daze Fair on Saturday at the school. The Fun Daze Fair starts at 9 a.m. June 29 with the opening of the Craft/Vendor Fair. Following the 10 a.m. Mapleton Daze Parade, the Fun Daze Fair will continue at approximately 11 a.m. at the Mapleton Elementary School.
The Fun Daze Fair will have inflatables, a photo booth, kids games, demonstrations, Molly the Trolley rides, a car show across the street at the Baptist Church and more. All Mapleton Daze Fair activities are free with no admission charge.
The Mapleton Daze Committee will be having their first variety show on Saturday, June 29, at 7 p.m. at the Lion’s Club. For this to be a success, the committee seeks talent — dancers, singers, comedy acts, musicians, jugglers, and more. Mapleton Summer Rec
The Mapleton Recreation Department has several recreation programs scheduled for the summer. Registrations for all baseball programs are due in the town by May 29. These programs include: 3-5-year old T-Ball, 6-7-year-old Coach Pitch Baseball, Little League (evening) baseball and Pony League baseball. A special youth program is being offered called “Microwave Master Chef “ for 9-16-year-olds. The registration deadline is June 14, 2019.
