HOULTON, Maine — Greater Houlton Christian Academy (GHCA) will hold its 22nd annual Bike-a-thon and Spaghetti Supper on Saturday, June 1. Approximately $20,000 is raised annually from the bike-a-thon which is used to support the needs of the school and to help keep tuition affordable for all families who wish to attend.
“Our students are working hard to collect pledges,” said Tom Zimmerman, head of school. “If you have been approached by a student and agreed to support them we thank you! We are grateful for the outpouring from the community that we continue to receive each year.”
The bike-a-thon has been updated to better reflect the interests of students and parents. Last year, the 60- and 100-mile routes were eliminated to focus on the more popular 10- and 20-mile courses. For those who prefer to run versus bike, there is a 5-mile walk/run route. In addition, there is a small course near the school for the little ones who attend Little Eagles Preschool and GHCA Pre-K programs.
To ensure everyone’s safety, GHCA is requesting all pet owners leash or house their pets between 7 a.m.-noon along the bike-a-thon routes. Additionally, they ask drivers to take extra caution as well. The courses will cover the following roads: White Settlement, Catalina, Hodgdon Mills, Walker Road, Porter Settlement, Bangor Road and County Road.
A spaghetti supper will begin at 4:30 p.m. at the Southern Aroostook Agricultural Museum. Cost of the supper is by donation and is open to the public.
As a local ministry GHCA’s mission is to provide an academically-solid education that is in harmony with Biblical values. Applications are now being accepted for the 2019/2020 school year. The school has provided a Christian education to students from Aroostook County, Maine, New Brunswick, Canada and overseas students for 35 years.
