WOODLAND, Maine — The town of Woodland will hold an annual meeting in which residents can vote on the 2019-20 school budget at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 18, in the Woodland Consolidated School gymnasium.
This year’s proposed budget of $2,252,111.25 contains about a quarter million dollar increase over last year’s budget of $2,060,408.79. Notable increases to the budget include $53,189 in K-8 instruction, which went from $675,586 last year to $728,775 this year; transportation by $24,666, going from $114,942 to 139,608.25; operation budget by $22,709; and the maintenance budget by $13,903.
The roughly $250,000 increase will have no impact on local taxes, as school officials worked last year to save money which this year will be taken out of the fund balance and added to overall revenues.
Last year $7,000 was used from the fund balance to offset expenses while $304,245 will be taken out of the account to offset this year’s increases.
The town also recently passed its annual municipal budget during a town meeting on March 19. This year’s town budget was $1,064,782.70, or $51,876.66 higher than last year’s total of $1,012,906.04.
The town’s board of selectmen will hold its monthly meeting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 25, in the town office on Woodland Center Road.
