AROOSTOOK COUNTY, Maine — The University of Maine Cooperative Extension will host two-session, hands-on food preservation workshops from 6 to 9 p.m. in July at sites in Houlton, Madawaska and Presque Isle.
Houlton sessions will take place on successive Tuesdays, July 9 and July 16, at Houlton Regional Hospital. Workshops will be held in Madawaska at the Public Safety Complex on Wednesdays, July 10 and July 17, and in Presque Isle at the Cooperative Extension office on Thursdays, July 11 and July 18.
Participants will learn the basics of canning, freezing and drying garden produce, including water bath and pressure canning. Fresh produce and canning jars will be provided.
The cost is $25 per person, which includes materials. A $10 processing fee will be retained in case of “no-show”; a full refund will be granted if organizers are notified at least 24 hours prior to the workshop.
