HOULTON, Maine — Another long-standing business in the Shiretown is closing its doors.
Company officials announced Monday that the Sears Hometown Store, located at 114 North St., will be closing within the next month.
Andy McAfee, one of the store managers for the Houlton business, confirmed Monday afternoon that the Sears Hometown Store in Houlton was closing its doors “sometime in July.” Only the Houlton location will be affected by the closure.
Three other Sears Hometown Stores located in Caribou, Fort Kent and Farmington are not affected by this decision.
McAfee said the reason for the closure was not necessarily due to slow sales. Instead, he said the franchise contract had expired and Sears officials opted not to renew that contract.
Inventory liquidation sales have already begun and will continue at increasing percentages off of the merchandise prices until the store closes.
