Horses — The following Caribou horses are entered for the big races in Presque Isle Friday. Betty Dean, Harry Stevens, Belle McGregor, Robert B. and Baron Marque, Caribou driving club, Queenie Brino and E.W. Russ.
75 Years Ago – July 13, 1944
Caribou Firemen Open Annual Carnival Monday. — Leo and May Jackson, outstanding bicycle riders, amusement shows and concessions will be featured at the annual Firemen’s Carnival to open next Monday, July 17 at the Caribou Ball Park. Six exhilarating days of amusement will be furnished to old folk and young at this annual event which will close on Saturday July 22. The Carnival will have a ferris wheel and auto ride. Hotdogs and soft drinks will be also be on sale at the firemen’s booth. Proceeds from the event will go to the firemen’s fund.
25 Years Ago – July 13, 1994
Bike Tour raises $4,000 for Charity — The Aroostook Heartride, sponsored in part by Paragon Cable, Daigle Oil, and Aroostook Bicycle and Sport raised over $4,000 for the American Heart Association and its fight against Maine’s No.1 killer, heart disease and stroke. The Heartride committee was delighted with the results.
Public Library plans Celebration of Caribou’s ‘Olde Tyme Days’— The Caribou Public Library will celebrate ‘Caribou Old Tyme Days’ with an evening of music and refreshments Thursday July 21st from 630-730 pm at the Caribou Public Library. The evening will feature the life and times of Laura Ingalls Wilder who enlightened thousands of readers to life on the prairie through her Little House series. Fiddle music from that period including Wilder’s favorite songs will be played by local artist Stephen Brody. Artifacts from that period will be on display as well as samples from Wilder literary collection. Staff members will be dressed in pioneer attire. Visitors are welcome to dress up as well.
