CARIBOU, Maine — Caribou police officers Craig Peterson and Aaron Marquis located and arrested Jerald “Rick” Scheurwater, 32, of Caribou on Tuesday, July 23. Scheurwater has been wanted for felony domestic violence charges since Caribou Police originally received a complaint at 2:15 p.m. on July 20.
Laura Adams, administrative assistant for Caribou Police, said officers located the man at 3:30 a.m. at a residence on Lower Lyndon Street in Caribou.
Police charged Scheurwater with Class B aggravated domestic violence assault, Class C domestic violence terrorizing, and Class D obstructing the report of a crime. He was transported to Aroostook County Jail on the day of his arrest, and his bail is set at $20,000 cash. His court date is scheduled for Aug. 8.
Adams said the bail was set to such a high amount as Scheurwater has a prior criminal history and had violated probation for a 2018 domestic violence conviction.
She added that this instance is one of four domestic cases the police department has handled within the past week. She said that victims, family and neighbors “should not be afraid to report domestic violence,” as there are many local resources available such as the Hope & Justice Project.
Adams said the police are also available to assist victims, investigate each case thoroughly, and to charge accordingly.
