DANFORTH, Maine — Jessica Michaud was determined to win on Saturday morning.
She and her two sisters had spent most of the morning playing children’s games in downtown Danforth during the annual Danforth Summerfest celebration, an annual event that gathers the community together.
“My sister won a little teddy bear,” she said after she had failed to pop a balloon with a dart. “I really want to win one, too.”
The theme of the celebration was good old-fashioned fun in the sun, according to Town Manager Ardis Brown. The events kicked off Thursday with a special appearance by the Zerbini Family Circus.
On Friday, there was a doll and teddy bear clinic and corn hole tournament. A lobster feast followed and the Jacob Smalley Band performed, followed by a “Mr. North Country” adult-themed pageant.
On Saturday, the downtown was busy with a craft fair and a large townwide parade that included police, fire trucks and walking units.
Kim Tomah of Houlton said she was in the community visiting friends at East Grand Lake and decided to take her niece to enjoy the fete.
“It is a nice little celebration,” she said, smiling as she watched her niece receive a balloon animal from a clown. “This is the third or fourth time we’ve been here.”
A chicken barbecue and horseshoe tournament was held on Saturday afternoon, followed by a bean supper, Rock Revelation concert and fireworks.
The festivities ended on Sunday with a luncheon at Greenland Cove Landing.
