HOULTON, Maine — Town Councilors approved funding to complete infrastructure improvements at the public safety building during a meeting on Monday, Aug. 26.
The $61,368 project will be paid for by tapping into numerous municipal funding sources.
Heat pump systems are designed to both heat and cool structures and can focus on zones within buildings as needed.
The town put the project out to bid in June, requesting a pump system with a thermostat to heat and cool Fire Chief Milton Cone’s office and a second thermostat to control the temperature in the dorm room, which is a respite area for paramedics and emergency medical technicians. A third thermostat will be installed in the day room and a fourth in the department’s training room.
In the police station, which is located on the first floor of the building, four thermostats will control the temperature in the facility.
The project will be completed by Harbison Plumbing, a Houlton business. The town will use $45,000 from the capital reserve account as partial payment. The remaining balance of $17,000 will come from the surplus account, and $968.23 will come from the operating budget.
In other business, councilors approved a first reading of a proposal to repair and replace compressor piping at the Millar Civic Center.
If final approval is given during a public hearing next month, the town will transfer $13,000 from the surplus account to finance the project. Town Manager Marian Anderson has requested authority to waive the bid process to authorize Honeywell to complete the repairs.
Before the meeting ended, councilors approved execution of an application for a liquor license renewal to the Division of Liquor Licensing and Enforcement by Chester L. Briggs Post 47, which is doing business as American Legion Post 47.
