We are getting excited and we’ve set the date. The Presque Isle Inn and Convention Center has teamed up with the Central Aroostook Humane Society once again to put on the 10th Annual Toast to the Animals, our beer and wine tasting and silent auction fundraiser.
Because of sleet, snow and freezing rain last year, the Toast will be held a little earlier this year, from 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19, at the Presque Isle Inn. We will have plenty of door prizes to go around, delicious food to sample, a 50/50 raffle and a wide variety of silent auction items to bid on. And, of course, you can’t forget the wonderful selection of unique beers and wines to sample. Other non-alcoholic beverages will also be available.
Tickets are $15 and are available at the door. All the proceeds will benefit the Central Aroostook Humane Society.
In our event’s 10-year history, we have had some amazing individuals, families and businesses step up to become a Toast Sponsor. Individuals can also sponsor in memory of a loved one or a beloved pet.
We offer two levels of support. For a $100 “Friend of Animals” sponsorship donation, you will receive two tickets to the event (a $30 value), recognition at the toast and also recognition on the CAHS Facebook page. For a $500 “Top Dog” or “Fat Cat” sponsorship, you will receive eight event tickets (a $120.00 value), a special VIP table with generous recognition throughout the event and also recognition on our Facebook page (plus a few more surprises). We depend on our generous sponsors and silent auction donations to help make this event happen. Without all of you, this wonderful evening couldn’t be possible. So please, won’t you consider being a part of a truly special evening?
If you are interested in being a sponsor or donating for our silent auction, please call 207-551-6966 or send an e-mail to gloriatowle@gmail.com. Sponsorship donation checks can be made payable to “CAHS.” Put Toast Sponsor in the remarks and mail to 24 Cross Street, Presque Isle, ME 04769. If you have good-quality auction items, please let us know and we can make arrangements to pick them up.
Fall tips for pets
Fall is a tough time for pet care because the temperatures are so variable. Depending on where you live, you may need to worry about anything from heatstroke to frostbite. In particular, you’ll always want to make certain that your dog or cat has enough water. Just because the weather has gotten cooler doesn’t mean that your pet doesn’t still need a lot to drink.
Try not to leave your pets outside for long periods of time. It doesn’t have to be winter for it to get cold, especially for puppies, senior pets and smaller animals.
It’s important to take 5 minutes to make sure your pet’s information is up to date by checking your pet’s ID tags and microchip.
If you have a dog that you shave during the summer, let him start growing his coat back in the fall. Just like you need your fall/winter coat, he needs his too.
Happy fall, everyone.
We would love to have you stop by the Central Aroostook Humane Society and see the beautiful animals that are waiting for a loving family to call their own. Our hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Remember to be responsible pet owners: Spay and neuter your pets.
