PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The United Way of Aroostook has named Sarah Ennis as executive director following Sherry Locke’s departure mid-September. Ennis will begin her new duties on Oct. 15.
“The UW board is very excited to have Sarah join us as our new executive director. She already knows the work we are doing so it should be a smooth transition for her as we continue with our community impact work,” said board president Wanda Guiggey.
“We are looking forward to her getting on board, becoming more familiar with the organization and taking the lead to continue and develop the work we are currently doing by collaborating with partner organizations to meet the needs of people in Aroostook County,” Guiggey said.
“For many years the United Way of Aroostook has brought people together to solve the problems our friends, neighbors and family members face living here in The County,” said Ennis.
“I am very excited to continue to work to unite all the amazing organizations to hopefully make an even bigger impact in all of our communities,” she said. “I look forward to getting to know the workplaces that are generously participating in workplace campaigns, the organizations that are impacting lives and the people that we are all serving. I am very humbled at this opportunity to help make a difference.”
Ennis was born and raised in Presque Isle. She moved away for a period of time but her love for The County brought her back. She earned her bachelor’s degree in liberal arts and history from the University of Maine at Presque Isle, and is currently working on her master’s degree in business executive leadership at Liberty University School of Business.
She has worked in media for the past several years, first at WAGM-TV and then at Townsquare Media. She is currently the president-elect of the Presque Isle Rotary Club and has spent a lot of time volunteering for the United Way, the Riverside Park Playground Planning Committee and the Nordic Heritage Center.
Ennis enjoys all the outdoor activities Aroostook County offers, being a mom to her daughter Payton, and running marathons. She and her family reside in Easton.
