WATERVILLE, Maine — The University of Maine at Presque Isle men’s golf team competed in the 36-hole North Atlantic Conference Championship on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 12 and 13, at Waterville Country Club.
A cold drizzle fell on the golfers as SUNY-Delhi finished in the first spot after the opening 18 holes of play. Thomas College was in second and Husson University in third going into Sunday’s action.
For the Owls, Collin Racine (sophomore, Rutland, Vermont) had a team-leading score of 47 on the front nine and finished the day with a score of 94. Payton Jones (freshman, Green Cove Springs, Florida) also carded a 94 and Christian Mumley (junior, Guilford) added a 96 for UMPI.
Matt Pelletier of the University of Maine at Farmington, Jason Klevan of NVU-Johnson and Nolan Codd of SUNY-Canton all had the day’s low round of even par (70).
On Sunday, SUNY Delhi emerged as the NAC Championship winners, while Eric Dugas of Husson was the medalist with a 145 on both days.
UMPI Sports Information Director Mark Knight said day two for UMPI was led by Mumley, who shot a 92 on the par-70 course, finishing with 188 on the two days. Jones also finished with 188, earning a 94 on both days. Both golfers tied for a 40th-place finish.
Racine finished day two with a 109, giving him a 203 finish. Jordan Hanscom (junior, Lincoln) finished with a 112 and a 220 total for both days, while Timmy Burns (freshman, Green Cove Springs, Florida) finished a stroke better on day two with a 119, finishing with 239.
As this young Owls roster concluded their season, Knight said they have set the program in the right direction and look to continue to improve UMPI golf in the future.
