Students and staff at Central Aroostook High School are currently planning the observance of Veterans Day at their school’s annual assembly and breakfast on Tuesday, Nov. 12.
Invitations have gone out to those names that they currently have, but if you live in the Mars Hill, Blaine, Bridgewater area and are a veteran, we would like to extend this invitation to you as well.
The breakfast will be at 7:30 a.m with an assembly to follow in the gym. If you plan to attend, please contact Wendy Grass at 425-2811 by Thursday, Nov. 7.
Fellowship Club
The Central Aroostook Junior and Senior Fellowship club is in full swing. Mr. Jardine, a physical education teacher at CAHS and the staff adviser of the club, said the club is for students who enjoy similar hobbies like video games, card games, board games, comic books, movies and technology.
The club is a diverse group who welcomes everyone; members are athletes, mathletes, band kids and more. The focus of this group is to bring students together, to build camaraderie and share.
At meetings members play board games or video games, chat about favorite movies and comic books, and just hang out and build peer relationships. The goal is to give various students a place to “belong” and a group to associate with.
Mr. Jardine is also exploring the possibility of starting an e-sports team that would compete with schools across the state.
Senior Thanksgiving
The board of directors of SAD 42 invites all senior citizens (60 years of age or older) who reside in Mars Hill, Blaine, Bridgewater or E Plantation to join the students for Thanksgiving dinner in the cafeteria/music room at Central Aroostook High School on Wednesday , Nov. 20, at 12:30 p.m.
To facilitate planning, anyone wanting to attend must contact Wendy Grass by Monday, Nov. 18, at 425-2811 to make a reservation. We look forward to seeing you on Nov. 20.
Christmas Child
The Mars Hill Rotary Club met recently with speaker Erica McCrum. She spoke about the upcoming Samaritan’s Purse “Operation Christmas Child” shoeboxes, which will be collected this year the week of Nov. 18.
Last year 168 million shoeboxes were sent out from 160 countries. Some children only get that box as a present each year. Anyone can participate as individuals, families, groups or churches. Shoeboxes can also be filled online for $25. Last year there were over 500,000 volunteers who participated.
The Mars Hill Rotary Club participates and packs boxes each year, along with many of the area churches. You can be a part of this wonderful program.
Rotary met Oct. 22 with guest speaker Denise Kingsbury from Maine Agri-Women speaking to the group about “Wreaths Across America.”
She got involved a couple of years ago and wreaths were placed on veterans’ graves at the Corner Cemetery in Bridgewater. Last year wreaths were placed on a cemetery in Washburn, and this year 170 wreaths will be placed at the Littleton cemetery.
Wreaths Across America places wreaths throughout the U.S at the same time on the same day Dec 14 at 12 noon. All wreaths come from the Worcester Wreath Company in Columbia Falls. There are over 90,000 volunteers who place wreaths on over 300,000 graves. This year Denise will be traveling to Arlington, Virginia, to help place the wreaths there.
