Easton boys open with two wins, Washburn girls cruise

The Easton Bears are off to a fast start in high school soccer action, following up Friday’s 3-1 home win over Wisdom with a 4-1 victory at Hodgdon Monday.
Nick Flewelling, Corey White and Brad Trask had a goal apiece in the win over the Pioneers. Flewelling also picked up an assist and Jeremy Brock saved nine of 10 shots in goal.     In the most recent triumph, White came through with two goals and assisted on a third, while Trask also scored twice to lift Easton. Devyn Gray, Sam Bacon and Flewelling were all credited with assists. Brock faced just six shots on the afternoon, saving three of them.
Also in boys action, Central Aroostook played to a 3-3 deadlock with Southern Aroostook in the mutual opener for both teams played Friday in Mars Hill. Travis McDonald scored two goals and Ryan Kilcollins had the other for the Panthers, with Logan McCarthy and Garrett Stiles earning assists. McCarthy had nine saves while facing 18 shots in goal for CA. Robbie Toothaker scored twice for the Warriors.
Washburn dropped its opener Monday to Wisdom, 4-1, in a game played in St. Agatha. Nick McIntosh converted an Ethan Doody assist for the lone Beaver goal. Brian Campbell picked up 24 saves while facing 33 shots in goal for Washburn. Rocky Chamberland’s two goals led Wisdom.
In girls action, Washburn opened with a 7-0 shutout win over Wisdom Monday, also in St. Agatha. Morgan Berube had five goals and Erica McDougall and Alex Bird notched one each for Washburn. McDougal, Kelsee McLaughlin and Dakota Koch all had assists and goalkeeper Rachel Palmer had a quiet day, saving two of five shots.
Central Aroostook fell to Southern Aroostook in Mars Hill Friday, 4-2. Miranda Levesque and Sarah Long were CA’s goal scorers, with Levesque’s coming on a penalty kick. Amber Bradley assisted on Long’s goal. Ashley Estabrook turned away nine of 17 shots in goal for the Lady Panthers.
The Easton girls dropped a pair of contests, falling to Wisdom Friday, 4-1, and dropping a 5-2 decision to Hodgdon Monday. Kilynne Beaulieu had all three of Easton’s goals, with Katrina Martin picking up an assist in Friday’s game and Katie Cyr notching a helper Monday. Sadie Romano and Brooke Lunney shared goalie chores in the opener, while Taylor Burtt played the entire game in net against the Lady Hawks.
