Canton, NY – The UMPI Women’s Volleyball team dropped a 3-0 match against SUNY Canton on Oct. 26 in the North Atlantic Conference match, losing 16-25, 16-25, and 14-25, and also fell to SUNY Delhi 16-25, 16-25 and 23-25.
UMPI vs. SUNY Canton
In set one, with a score of 9-19 UMPI went on a 5-1 run behind kills by Ashlon Stroub (junior, Bakersfield, California), Miranda Washinawatok (junior, Shawano, Wisconsin), and Maddi Thweatt (junior, Middleton, Idaho). Laura Aroz (senior, Tucson, Arizona) also added an ace before Canton eventually took the set 16-25.
Set two saw the Owls on another 5-1 run starting with a kill from Thweatt, followed by another ace serve by Aroz. Later came a kill from Washinawatok and an ace serve from Thweatt this time. The owls could not keep the run going and lost the set 16-25.
In set three, Taylor Miller (junior, Weeki Wachee, Florida) led the way in kills for the owls racking up three on the set while Washinawatok and Thweatt each added another two.
Miller finished the set with five kills on nine attempts and no errors. Aroz led the Owls with five assists while Thweatt led with 10 digs on the match.
UMPI vs. SUNY Delhi
In set one against Delhi, with the score at 7-13, the Owls found a groove and went on a 4-0 run capitalizing on Delhi errors and an ace serve from Washinawatok. Later in the match they found another 3-0 run with a kill from Thweatt and another service ace from Hailey Kelly (freshman, Wells) before the match was lost.
The offense in set two was carried by Washinawatok, who racked up five kills followed by Miller who had three.
Early on in set three, the Wwls went on a 10-4 run which started with a kill and a service ace from Washinawatok. Thweatt and Miller also added two kills each. The Broncos would end the match with a late run.
Aroz led the Owls with 12 assists on the match. Washinawatok finished with 12 kills on 20 attempts and added ten digs. Roni Shaw (junior, Payette, Idaho) and Breanna Epperly (freshman, Reserve, Louisiana) had seven digs apiece.
UMPI will be back in action Saturday, Nov. 2, in Bangor, taking on Husson and Maine Maritime.
