CARIBOU, Maine — October finished with above normal temperatures and precipitation for the region, according to the National Weather Service in Caribou.
Temperatures averaged from 1.5 to 2.5 degrees above normal for the month with near normal temperatures until the last three days, which finished with significantly above average temperatures.
The highest temperature for the month was 66 degrees in Caribou, recorded on Oct. 31. The lowest temperature was 26 degrees on Oct. 19. The normal for the month is 55 degrees.
Caribou received 3.76 inches of precipitation last month, which was 0.23 inches above normal. The most the city has ever received is 8.73 inches in 1990, and the least was 0.63 inches in 1955.
Houlton also saw a high temperature of 66 degrees on Halloween, the Caribou weather station said.
The relatively warm temperature for Oct. 31 was a stark contrast to Halloween holidays of the past, according to Jessica Maher of Houlton. The mother of three said that she could recall “many holidays” in which she had to “fight with her mother” because she wanted everyone to see her Halloween costume and her mother wanted her to be warm.
“I always ended up putting on my snowsuit or at least my big winter coat on over my Halloween costume,” she said Wednesday.
Precipitation, mainly in the form of rain, ranged from 110 to 150 percent of average.
The most widespread heavy rainfall occurred on Oct. 23. Very light snowfall ranging from a trace to a dusting occurred mostly across northern and central areas on Oct. 4, 26 and 27.
Significant winds occurred on Oct. 16 and 31, which resulted in power outages.
