115 Years Ago – Nov. 25, 1904

     Back in town Norman Shea, brother of Geo. Shea of this town, arrived here Monday from Seattle.

He will associate himself with his brother in the Houlton Foundry and Machine Co. He was formerly connected with the foundry in this town when it was run under the firm name of Graves & Shea. For the past dozen years Mr. Shea has been in the employ of the U.S. Government.

100 Years Ago – Nov. 26, 1919

     Moved into town Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Bubar have moved into town from their farm in New Limerick for the winter. Mr. Bubar will be employed by the Eastman Heater Car Co., having charge of all cars in this town.

     Here for three months Justin C. Rose, a representative of L A. Crossett Co. shoe manufacturers arrived last week from a three months trip over his territory and will remain at home for three months.

75 Years Ago – Nov. 30, 1944

     50th anniversary Fifty friends and relatives gathered Monday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. James Prosser in Monticello in honor of their 50th wedding anniversary. Among the guests were three other couples who had celebrated their 50th anniversaries within the year. They were Mr. and Mrs. Herman Shaw, whose anniversary was on July 5; Mr. and Mrs. B.F. Hanning, who celebrated their golden wedding anniversary October 10; and Mr. and Mrs. J F. Leavitt of Littleton, whose 50th anniversary was August 22. Mr. and Mrs. Hanning are the youngest couple of the four, being 69 and 68 respectively.

50 Years Ago – Nov. 26, 1969

     Open house draws 1000 An estimated 1,000 persons braved the rain Thursday afternoon to attend the open house that marked the 31st anniversary of Houlton Farms Dairy. Alan H. Clark, owner of the dairy, said the group included an estimated 600 adults and 400 children. Special tours of the dairy’s new facilities were conducted.

     Outstanding farmer Robert Heath of Patten was honored last week by being named the Outstanding Farmer for 1969 by the Southern Aroostook Soil and Water Conservation District. The presentation was made during the District’s annual meeting at the Grange Hall in Houlton by Arthur Crouse, a District supervisor, also from Patten. Mr. Heath and his brother Wayne are potato farmers in Patten.

25 Years Ago – Nov. 30, 1994

    Recognized Rod Farrar was congratulated by Keith Saunders, plant manager, for his 30-years of service with A.E. Staley Manufacturing Company.  William Folsom was also recognized for his five years of service with the A.E. Staley manufacturing Company.

    Supports fundraiser — Debbie Woodbury, of the Houlton Wal-Mart store, presented Carole Dion, Houlton Area Aroostook RSVP coordinator, with a check for RSVP cookbooks sold at the store. The Wal-Mart Foundation Community Involvement Matching Grant Program encourages individual Wal-Mart stores to sponsor projects to benefit worthy local organizations.
