Mapleton Daze On-Line Silent Auction ends Dec. 12

On Monday, the Mapleton Daze Committee opened its first Mapleton Daze On-Line Silent Auction. The online auction ends at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 12.

The Mapleton Daze Committee reminds everyone that with only one day left, time is running out for the auction. The auction gives everyone a chance to do some holiday shopping from home and help raise funds for Mapleton Daze 2020. So get on-line today or tomorrow where you can find many items and services donated to the Mapleton Daze Silent Auction.

Lynnelle Foster, Mapleton Daze president, suggests readers come and browse all the items from the luxury of your sofa. Bid as many times as you wish for any item keeping in mind that bidding after 6 p.m. tomorrow Dec. 12, will not be accepted. For information about this event and how it works, check out the event at facebook.com or contact any member of the Mapleton Daze Committee.

An Afternoon at the North Pole

Santa Claus is coming to town — Mapleton that is.

A second December Mapleton Daze Fundraising event is planned for the enjoyment of kids. The Committee will host “An Afternoon at the North Pole” 1-4 p.m. Dec. 14, in the Mapleton Lions Hall, 1713 Main St., Mapleton.

Grab the kids and come to the Mapleton’s Lions Hall as it will be transformed into the North Pole. The Mapleton Daze Committee Elves will host “An Afternoon at the North Pole” with crafting activities, cookie decorating and a holiday movie with popcorn. Rumor has it that the big guy himself — Santa — will be stopping by to see if the kids have been naughty or nice and take pictures with them. Now how much fun does that sound?

As this is a fundraiser for Mapleton Daze 2020, the committee is asking for suggested donations of $5 for each child or a family max bundle (of four or more people) of $20.

Church to host Children’s Drive Movie Evening

State Road Advent Christian Church in Mapleton has special activities for the church’s Hide and Seek Club occurring this month. The Hide and Seek Club (H&S) is a children’s ministry committed to encouraging young people to love God, love others and love in action. Hide and Seek is open to all children through fifth grade. (Pre-K children are welcome if they can go to the bathroom unassisted.)

Last night at H&S there was a HUGE cardboard maze. Hundreds of large appliance boxes filled the church’s gymnasium with a confusing maze. Next week on Tuesday, Dec. 17, from 6 to 8 p.m., the Hide and Seek Club will host a Drive-In Movie Night at State Road Advent Christian Church.

Parents will help club members make a car out of a cardboard box at home and bring it to Hide and Seek. The church’s car hops will serve dinner to club members as they watch a movie. If anyone has questions or wants information, they can call Pastor Josh Tate at 207-762-2109.

Community Thanksgiving Fest a success

Dinners at the Mapleton second annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner reported an excellent fest was had by all. Darcy and Bob McBay cooked for two days to prepare a traditional Thanksgiving dinner. Bob spent much of his time preparing and cooling the several turkeys needed to serve the 130-150 dinners that were served. This number of dinners was significantly above last year’s number, which was the first time the community dinner was held.

Darcy managed the preparation of the side dishes and desserts, as well as coordinated the final setup of the Mapleton Lions Hall. The Mapleton Lions Club members helped with setting the hall and with clean up. Mike Ireland, who is a regular Meals on Wheels driver in the area, coordinated home delivery of hot turkey dinners to people who because of health, age or fragility were unable to come to the hall to enjoy the feast with their neighbors and friends. More than $900 was collected in donations at the door.

These funds will be shared with other groups to meet community needs. At the close of the event, Bob and Darcy say they are looking forward to next year’s community fest.

Mapleton Seniors prepare for Christmas

On Monday, Dec. 2, Mapleton, Chapman and Castle Hill Seniors held its regular meeting starting with a terrific lunch, followed by a Christmas craft session led by Wayne Kennard of Mapleton. Each member of the group under Wayne’s direction created its own individual decorative door wreath. Constructing the wreaths was enjoyed by all. The next meeting of the seniors will be held at 11:30 a.m. Jan. 6, 2020, at the Mapleton United Methodist Church. Anyone in the area older than age 50 is welcome to attend.
