Charleston man charged with felony assault

CARIBOU, Maine — Caribou Police arrested Damian Simoneau, 26, of Charleston after receiving a call about an assault that occurred on Prospect Street in Caribou on Monday. 

 

The complaint was called in at 3:16 p.m.. Police arrived shortly afterward and found “that an 18-year-old male had sustained injuries as a result of being struck with a baseball bat and was transported by helicopter to EMMC due to the severity of his injuries,” according to a release issued by the department on Tuesday.

Simoneau, the suspect, had allegedly damaged a fence and parked vehicle at the Prospect Street residence while escaping his 1994 Dodge pickup. The police soon found the vehicle parked at an Old Washburn Road residence, where they made their arrest. 

Officers charged Simoneau with elevated aggravated assault, a class A felony, along with aggravated criminal mischief and operating after revocation, both class C felonies, and transported him to the Caribou Police Department.

Caribou police were assisted by the Maine State Police, the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office, the Maine Warden Service, along with the Caribou Fire and Ambulance Department.

Simoneau is now being held in jail without bail, and has a scheduled court date of Feb. 6, 2020.

According to the release, more charges may be added as the investigation continues.

Laura Adams, administrative assistant for the Caribou Police Department, said there were no updates on the victim’s condition as of Wednesday morning.
