PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Wintergreen Arts Center recently received a $4,000 grant from the Maine Community Foundation to create a digital storytelling (video) project highlighting the importance of agriculture to the local economy in Aroostook County.
This grant is made from the Maine Expansion Arts Fund of the Maine Community Foundation at the recommendation of the advisors.
“The idea for Wintergreen’s students to create this video project came from a member of the agricultural community right here in Aroostook County,” said Dottie Hutchins, Wintergreen’s executive director. “We are beyond grateful for the support of the Maine Community Foundation and absolutely thrilled to finally be able to make this project a reality.”
Over the winter, Wintergreen teachers and students will work with community partners — farmers, processors, agricultural officials, and others — to gather background information and complete the research needed to build storyboards and write the script in preparation for video production to take place over the growing season.
Rowena and Shawn McPherson of Mouse Island Creatives in Perham will serve as creative consultants on the project, providing oversight in project steps including storyboarding, directing, proofing, producing, shooting and editing.
“A $500 donation from the Northern Maine Agricultural Foundation, matched by a $500 gift from McCain Foods USA, help support this project,” Hutchins added.
