Central Aroostook named 2020 Aroostook League cheering champions

CARIBOU, Maine — The Caribou High School gymnasium was packed Friday as five cheerleading teams participated in the first competition of the season. Central Aroostook, a squad that has won six consecutive state Class D titles, came out in first place during the Aroostook League Cheering competition. 

 

While Fort Fairfield was not able to attend the event, the Friday event also saw squads from Presque Isle, Houlton, Caribou and Southern Aroostook compete for the crown.

Houlton was named second place, Presque Isle was third, Southern Aroostook was fourth, and Caribou was ranked fifth place.

Jack Schafer of the Central Aroostook squad and Clara Kohlbacher of Presque Isle were each awarded for all-star tumbling. Schafer and Janelle Tweedie, both of Central Aroostook, also won honors for all-star jumps. 

Presque Isle was named the all-star stunt group and received the best team stunts honor. Southern Aroostook was given the Spirit Award. The best team dance and best team jumps awards went to Central Aroostook, and Houlton won best tumbling and best team motions.
