PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The University of Maine at Presque Isle Men’s and Women’s Ski team hosted their 5K Freestyle Race on Jan. 25 at the Nordic Heritage Center vs. the University of Maine at Farmington and citizens.
Conner Nilson of Waukesha, Wisconsin, finished first overall with a time of 15:26. Kassandra Nelson of Portage Lake finished first of the women skiers and ninth overall with a time of 18:04, leading the Owls to a four-point win over Farmington.
Leinani Farnsworth of Portland was the second women’s skier to finish for the collegiate racers, ending in overall 10th place with a time of 20:57, giving UMPI the win.
Joel Soper of Livermore finished with a time of 21:45 and an 11th-place finish in his first ski race.
The top three collegiate men’s racers were Nilson, Isaiah Reid and Connor Marland.
The top three collegiate women’s racers were Nelson, Farnsworth and Mullein Francis.
The top finishers of the men citizen racers were Jason Bartley, finishing third overall, and Connor Hrynuk finishing either overall. Hannah Streinz was the solo women’s citizen racer, finishing in fourth overall.
