CARIBOU, Maine — The Caribou High School National Honor Society is seeking nominations for the third “Alumni Hall of Fame” ceremony, which honors school alumni who have made notable strides in their adult lives.
2020 hall of fame co-chairs and NHS members Victoria Leavitt, Madison Stratton and Anna Thibodeau are organizing the school’s ceremony, which will occur on May 3 in the Caribou Performing Arts Center.
Leavitt said that anyone can nominate two worthy candidates by going to the RSU 39 website and find an online submission form in the Hall of Fame page under the “Our Schools” portion of the banner. The submission form can be submitted online through the website or printed out and mailed to Caribou High School, CHS Hall of Fame, 308 Sweden Street, Caribou, Maine 04736.
Leavitt, a senior who is also the NHS recording secretary, said the hall of fame is a community-oriented event, and will be open to a number of community members.
“I think sometimes the work of our alumni here at Caribou High School gets overlooked and the hall of fame really emphasizes how hard they have worked,” she said. “And their picture will be right in our hallway. A lot of people come through Caribou High School every day and will be able to see them.”
Following every hall of fame ceremony, large framed photos are added to the left side of the wall of the first-floor hallway leading to the gym, library and cafeteria. As the wall fills up, the photos of first-year inductees will be moved to the right side of the wall, while the newest members will remain on the left side.
The deadline for nominations is March 2.
The first Alumni Hall of Fame was held in 2016, and honored six Caribou graduates: frozen french fry creator Olof Pierson, four-star U.S. Navy Adm. Gregory Johnson, Daytona International Speedway grounds director Jason Griffeth, Cary Medical CEO Kris Doody, U.S. Sen. Susan Collins and NASA Astronaut Jessica Meir.
The event is held every other year, and the 2018 Hall of Fame featured Dr. Christopher Lowrey, local contractor Carl Soderberg, WomanCare Global CEO Saundra Pelletier, London-based fashion company Cute-Circuit co-founder Ryan Genz and New York-based artist Brett McCormack.
