HOULTON, Maine — At least 10 schools in Aroostook County have closed for two weeks, following a national trend of school closings to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Schools which have announced closures in Aroostook County so far include:
— RSU 89 (Katahdin) has announced a postponement of classes from March 16 through March 29.
— Maine School of Science and Mathematics (Limestone) will postpone classes at the end of the day Friday, March 20, and resume classes on Monday, April 6.
–Fort Fairfield Schools will be closed for two weeks starting Monday, March 16, according to its Facebook page.
–RSU 29 (Houlton) and SAD 70 (Hodgdon) are officially closed for 2 weeks.
— All SAD 1 (Presque Isle) schools will close from Monday, March 16, through Friday, March 27. Staff will have workshop days on March 16 and 17 in order to plan to provide remote learning to all students.
— Schools in Easton will be closed from March 16 to March 27 as a precaution. All staff will be expected to attend as usual on Monday, March 16, to create plans for the remainder of the closure.
— SAD 42 Central Aroostook closed until March 30th, as per their Facebook page.
— SAD 45 (Washburn) will be closing March 16 to March 27.
— All Valley Unified School District schools will be closed until March 27.
— SAD 32 (Ashland) to close for two weeks, according to superintendent Gehrig Johnson.
— Van Buren schools to close until March 30. Students will have an abbreviated school day on Wednesday to retrieve any school materials and laptops.
