PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — As part of the Aroostook CA$H Coalition, United Way of Aroostook is sorry to announce it has suspended its free tax prep services until further notice due to the COVID-19 virus. Services in their Houlton, Presque Isle, and Fort Kent sites are affected.
Based on recommendations for senior citizens to avoid gatherings of ten or more, the coalition officials decided to suspend services indefinitely as 70 percent of their clients fall into that demographic and most of the tax team volunteers do as well.
“We realize this is a huge inconvenience to the people we serve, but we are committed to keeping our clients and volunteers safe and reduce their health risks,” said Athena Hallowell, program and volunteer coordinator for United Way of Aroostook.
United Way and H&R Block support an online filing service that is free for state and federal taxes. The site is www.myfreetaxes.com, Hallowell said.
