Caribou tops P.I. first time since 1929 — In the fastest and roughest game yet played at Caribou this season, the Webbermen of Caribou High defeated the high flying Wildcats of Presque Isle 42-49 last Friday night. It was the first time Caribou beat Presque Isle since 1929, when Caribou won 31-14.
Stockholm town business — Citizens of Stockholm appropriated $19,323 for the operation of the town during the coming year at their annual town meeting last Monday.
50 Years Ago – April 1, 1970
American Kitchen Foods plans $1 million expansion — American Kitchen Foods Inc. in Caribou is planning a major modernization improvement project which will be completed in 1970. Overall, the improvements are expected to fall in the $1 million-plus bracket.
Mahoney firm here a decade — April 1 marks 10 years of business for Mahoney’s Real Estate, announced Gradon and Martha Mahoney, owners of the firm. In April of 1960, they purchased the former Dale Currier Real Estate Agency. The Mahoneys are both licensed real estate brokers and their objective is to offer professional real estate service on a personal and friendly basis.
25 Years Ago – March 29, 1995
Icebreaker arrives — Spectators gathered to watch the amphibious icebreaker on the Aroostook River in Fort Fairfield Friday. The vessel was brought from Canada by the town with approval to spend $50,000 on the rental. The icebreaker is described as an excavator as large as a backhoe on a rubber raft. It is expected to break the ice for three miles from Fort Fairfield to the Canadian border.
New Sweden carnival winners — Congratulations to Judy Hilmquist on winning 100 gallons of fuel oil and to Greg Fournier on winning a $100 savings bond at the recent New Sweden Winter Carnival.
