CARIBOU, Maine —RSU 39 (Caribou and Stockholm) hired Eric McGough as Caribou High School’s new principal for the 2020-21 school year.
McGough currently works as the director of programs for exceptional children at MSAD 20 in Fort Fairfield.
Travis Barnes, the current high school principal, is stepping down as he recently was hired as assistant principal for the Caribou Community School, a new pre-K-eight facility on track to open in mid-September.
In addition to experience at MSAD 20, McGough will complete a Doctor of Education program from the University of New England with a concentration in transformational leadership later this year.
McGough taught special education and worked as athletic administrator as well as assistant principal at Limestone Community School. He also formerly taught special education at Caribou High School.
He also has military experience, and earned the Excellence in Leadership Coin for his entire company in Army basic training. He is an officer candidate in the Maine Army National Guard.
Superintendent Tim Doak said McGough was formally hired by the RSU 39 Board of Education during a March 17 meeting, adding that his abundance of educational and military experience will make him a great fit for the high school.
