Tractor-trailer crash damages van

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — A van was damaged in a crash involving a tractor-trailer truck on Main Street in Presque Isle Monday, police said.

Police said the crash occurred after the van’s driver failed to yield to the tractor-trailer as it took a wide right turn. There were no injuries.

David Dionne of Madawaska was operating a 2006 Western Star tractor-trailer owned by the Madawaska-based Dionne Construction, Presque Isle Police officer Brady Smith said.

Smith said Dionne put on his right turn signal while in the left lane, beginning to make a wide right turn when the traffic light turned green.

As Dionne began to turn, a 2005 Dodge Caravan van operated by June Tuller of Presque Isle attempted to turn right and failed to yield to the tractor-trailer’s wide right turn, police said.

The trailer, which police said was empty, struck the driver’s side of Tuller’s van, resulting in the front of the van near the driver’s door to collapse and partially collapsing the roof.

The trailer’s rear wheels pushed into the sliding door and back panel of the driver’s side of the van before coming to a stop.

Smith said there were no injuries to either driver, who were the only people involved in the crash. He also said there were no pending charges or violations.

A Facebook post about the incident from David Winter of Presque Isle received more than a 100 likes and nearly 200 comments. Many of the likes came from those living outside The County, from as far away as Texas and Wisconsin.
