UMPI professor’s work
displayed at festival
PRESQUE ISLE — New work by University of Maine at Presque Isle Assistant Professor of Fine Art Heather Sincavage was on display during the Mayfair Festival of the Arts, a national multidisciplinary arts festival held in late May in Allentown, Penn., that welcomes about 50,000 attendees each year.
Sincavage’s work was included in a new invitational exhibition of 30 notable artists in or from the Lehigh Valley in Pennsylvania. Mediums represented in the Invitational Gallery at Mayfair included metal, mixed media, photography, oils, acrylic, collage, encaustic, graphite, watercolor, sculpture, sound sculpture and goache.
According to Sincavage, as part of this year’s festival, Mayfair organizers were looking to honor more of the localized artists who have made an impact on the Lehigh Valley.
The exhibit included artists that are also educators and community activists in the region, or, in Sincavage’s case, had an impact on the Lehigh Valley in the past.
Sincavage, who hails from the Lehigh Valley and taught art there for more than a decade, was named the recipient of the Allentown Arts Commission “Outstanding Contributions to the Visual Arts” Award in 2011, just before her move to northern Maine to take her position at UMPI.
Sincavage has an MFA from the University of Washington, Seattle, and a BFA from Temple University’s Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia, Penn.
She has taught as an adjunct instructor at Lehigh University, Baum School of Art, Lehigh Carbon Community College, and Penn State.
She has had several commissioned pieces and exhibitions at galleries in Pennsylvania, Texas and New Jersey, and as far away as Spain.
Sincavage has been awarded numerous Pennsylvania Council on the Arts grants; been grant funded to attend the Vermont Studio Center; and was a Spring 2010 Artist in Residence at Lehigh University.
