Students receive end-of-year awards

Tuesday, June 11, was the last day of school for students at Washburn District High School. It was also awards day for the kindergarten through 7th grade students at the Washburn Elementary School. There were awards for citizenship, honor roll, high achievements in each subject and perfect attendance.
There were 12 elementary students who had perfect attendance during the school year. Perfect attendance students were: kindergarten — Dacota Dube; first grade — Kassandra Farley and Hilary Driscoll; second grade — Tal McCoy, Christopher Tardie and Ben Turner; fourth grade — Emerson Turner and Aidan Churchill; fifth grade — Colby Hewitt and Skylar Mette; sixth grade — Mollie Clark; and sixth grade — Megan Farley.

At the awards ceremony Principal Ricky Bragg received a standing ovation and tears were shed as students and teachers said goodbye. Ricky Bragg will not be returning next year to Washburn District schools. He will be greatly missed by teachers, students and parents.

Historical Society news
On Sunday, June 30, the Salmon Brook Historical Society will be holding a finger-knitting class for kids age 6 and up between 1-4 p.m. at the museum next to Story Park on Main Street in Washburn.
The Salmon Brook Historical Society museums will be open to the public Sundays from 1-4 p.m. and Wednesdays from 8-11 a.m. through mid-September. Stop by and see the exhibits of late 1800s to mid-1900s’ household furnishings and farm equipment as well as the military collection. Admission is free but donation to help support the maintenance and upkeep of the museums are greatly appreciated. All are welcome. For tours at other times or for large groups, call 455-4339 well in advance to make arrangements.

Class holds fundraiser
On Tuesday, June 11, the Washburn High School Class of 2014 held a fundraiser at The Pizza House in Mapleton. That evening a portion of all sales went to support the class. Many Washburn residents turned out to support the students and the fundraiser was a success. The class would like to thank everyone who turned out to support them.
