HEDRICH, Uriah Joseph II, 85, PRESQUE ISLE, June 24, 2013. Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m., Thursday, June 27, at The Congregational Church, Presque Isle. Arrangements in care of Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, Presque Isle.
PRESQUE ISLE – Uriah Joseph Hedrich II, 85, of Pine Island, Florida, and Mann’s Mountain, New Brunswick, Canada, passed peacefully on June 24, 2013, in Presque Isle, ME, where Joe was born June 5, 1928. Joe graduated from The Gunnery Preparatory School in Conn. Joe was a third generation Presque Isle businessman. At sixteen, he worked for his grandfather at the U. J. Hedrich Co. After serving in the Navy in the South Pacific, Joe returned to Presque Isle to begin his first business venture, The Hedrich Vending Company. Joe was co-founder and past president of the Pine Tree Vending Association. Joe was also a member of The Masonic Trinity Lodge and a number of other civic organizations. Joe enjoyed gardening and loved to share his raspberries and blueberries with friends and neighbors. He was a honeybee keeper and an avid salmon fisherman. Joe also enjoyed a good round of golf. He will be remembered fondly for his quick wit and humor.
Joe is survived by his loving partner, Sandra Thompson of Mann’s Mountain, NB; four sons: Uriah J. (Joe) Hedrich III of Presque Isle, Gregory Hedrich and fiancé, Jan Lovett of Presque Isle, Todd and Jennifer Hedrich of Presque Isle, David and Nancy Hedrich of Mapleton; five grandchildren: Uriah J. IV, Jordan, Taylor, Matthew and Madison; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Joe was predeceased by his parents, Harry B. Hedrich and Elizabeth (Grant) Hedrich of Presque Isle; three sisters: Ella Louise (Hedrich) O’Donnell, Betty Jane (Hedrich) Burt, Patricia (Hedrich) Baston; and grandson, Daniel Hedrich.
Friends may call Thursday, June 27, 2013, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at The Congregational Church, Church St., Presque Isle, where funeral services will be held at 12 p.m., with Rev. Tim Stohlberg officiating. Interment will be at Fairmount Cemetery, Presque Isle.
