SAD 70 approves LED lighting projects

HODGDON, Maine — SAD 70 will soon have more energy efficient lights throughout the district thanks to two Efficiency Maine projects.

On Monday, the board unanimously approved spending $29,690 to install new LED lights in both Hodgdon Middle-High and Mill Pond Elementary schools to finish upgrades for the two schools.

By making the switch, the district estimates the savings on electricity consumption will pay for the new lights in just under two year’s time.

“The good news is that we only had about $30,000 worth of projects left to do,” Superintendent Steve Fitzpatrick said. “This will close out our LED projects for the two schools. Plus, given our current situation [with school’s closed] this is a great time to do these projects.”

Mill Pond School will see 10 new lights installed in its gymnasium, five in offices, two in classrooms and 61 ambient lights in hallways.

Hodgdon Middle-High School’s list is much longer with 141 new lights planned. Included in the plan are 26 new lights for the school’s gymnasium, 28 for the library, 26 for the Main Commons and another 61 lights for hallways and classrooms.

The cost savings for these lights is estimated at $15,443.
