PRESQUE ISLE — Police are continuing to investigate a single-vehicle crash that took place on the Reach Road on Saturday.
“On June 22 at about 6:25 p.m., Presque Isle Police Department officers responded to a crash on the Reach Road approximately one-tenth of a mile west of the Higgins Road. At the time of the crash, the weather was clear and the road surface was dry,” said Deputy Chief Laurie Kelly, of the PIPD.
Officer Kevin Reed was assigned to investigate.
“The operator, Gary Stevens, 28, of Presque Isle, was eastbound, traveling the wrong way into opposing traffic and was exceeding the posted speed limit. Stevens skidded, lost control, overcorrected and rolled into a rock-filled ditch,” said Kelly.
Kelly said the 1997 Subaru station wagon was towed by Impact Auto “due to disabling damage to the top/roof, back and front.”
“The vehicle is believed to be a total loss,” Kelly said.
Presque Isle Fire Department and Crown Ambulance also responded to assist at the scene.
“Stevens was given both alcohol and drug blood tests, with results pending,” said Kelly.
