100 Years Ago – April 28, 1920
Attend session — Messrs A.A. Hutchinson, W.O. Buzzell and A.J. Saunders were in Presque Isle Thursday to attend a session of the Aroostook Council.
Accepted position — Mr. Archie Stevens of Hartland N.B., a former employee of the Royal Bank of Canada, has accepted a position in the clerical department of the Times Publishing Co.
75 Years Ago – April 26, 1945
Auto dealers to meet — Automobile dealers’ meetings to discuss price control regulations as announced by George C. Kaley, OPA Automobile Specialist, include Houlton, May 3.
Wins contest — Gloria Dow of the Senior Class at Houlton High School won first place in the Annual Regional Spear Speaking Contest held in the H.H.S. Auditorium last Friday evening. This contest included schools from the Southern Aroostook area and the winner is privileged to represent this section at the Annual Speaking Contest held in connection with the Principal’s Conference at the State House in Augusta on May 3. Janet Walker of Ricker Classical Institute was second place winner and will serve as alternate.
50 Years Ago – April 29, 1970
Receives check — Donald Bradley of Houlton was the winner of $100 last week during Redikulous Days sponsored by the Retail Trade Board of the Chamber of Commerce. Local merchants participated in the sales promotion and Mr. Bradley’s name was drawn Saturday evening as the winner of the prize money. Handing him the check was James Cole, chairman of the Retail Trade Board.
25 Years Ago – April 26, 1995
Accepts donations — Brian Plourde, president of the Babe Ruth Baseball League, has accepted continued donations from A.E. Staley Manufacturing Company and Irving Oil Company. Staley’s Plant Manager, Keith Saunders, presented Plourde with his donation and Jim Weston, co-manager of Irving, handed Plourde with the company’s donation.
Recognized — The A.E. Staley Manufacturing Company recognized two of its employees for 25 years of service. Mark Cassidy, maintenance manager, congratulated Roger Smith and Kevin Widhalm, logistics manager, congratulated Lawrence Margison.
