FORT FAIRFIELD, Maine — The town of Fort Fairfield has postponed its annual spring clean-up Curbside Collection program until further notice due to state regulations surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic.
Every spring the Fort Fairfield Public Works Department goes from street to street to collect and dispose of brush and lawn debris, old appliances and other metal items that residents want to discard. Items they do not accept include electronics, furniture, tires, paints or stains, household waste and hazardous materials.
During the regular town council meeting on Wednesday — which was closed to the public but available for online streaming — Town Manager Andrea Powers said that the town will announce a time for curbside collection at a later date.
In other business, the council approved three local donations to the Fort Fairfield Parks and Recreation Department. Katahdin Trust Company and the County Federal Credit Union will each contribute $2,789 to purchase new LED scoreboards and wireless remote controls. County Ag has agreed to donate a 65-gallon water tank, valued at $230, to use in the maintenance of the town’s ice rink next winter.
The next regular council meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 20. Town departments remain closed to the public until after the statewide stay-at-home order expires on May 15, unless the order is extended.
