NMCC commencement — Northern Maine Community College will celebrate new graduates with a virtual commencement ceremony at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 2. The livestream will take the form of pre-recorded speeches and a presentation of students’ names, photos and programs of study and will premiere on NMCC’s Facebook page and YouTube channel the same day and time.
UMPI commencement — The University of Maine at Presque Isle will celebrate its 111th commencement with a virtual ceremony on Saturday, May 9, at 10:30 a.m. The community may view the event on UMPI’s Youtube page at www.youtube.com/user/umpinow and help the campus celebrate the Class of 2020. FrontLine WarmLine — A new volunteer phone support service, the FrontLine WarmLine, is open to help Maine health care workers and first responders manage the stress of serving on the front lines of the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. Phone help service is supported by the Mills administration and behavioral health partners, and is staffed by volunteer professionals. The WarmLine is available to clinicians and first responders from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., seven days a week, by calling 207-221-8196 or 866-367-4440.
Prayer for strength — Bishop Robert Deeley will participate virtually in a prayer service at 3 p.m. on Friday, May 1, when all U.S. bishops are invited to renew the consecration of the U.S. to the Blessed Virgin Mary in response to the pandemic. The bishop invited all Maine faithful to participate. The service will be streamed on the U.S. Council of Catholic Bishops’ Facebook page (www.facebook.com/usccb), and will also be broadcast live on EWTN-TV and local Relevant Radio affiliates 97.5 FM in Fort Kent and 1390 AM in northern Maine; at www.relevantradio.com/listen; or on smartphones by downloading the Relevant Radio app.

The Aroostook Agency on Aging’s Friendly Visitor Program matches up folks with Aroostook RSVP participants to provide conversation and companionship. Interactive classes — Aroostook Agency on Aging partner Healthy Living for ME is offering virtual Tai Chi and Better Health Now classes for participation at home. The 16-session Tai Chi class can help quiet the mind with slow, methodical movements that have been proven to improve balance and lessen the pain associated with arthritis. The six-week Better Health Now program includes free interactive toolkits and weekly support calls with a certified facilitator. Call the agency at 764-3396 for information.
Moose lottery — The 2020 Maine Moose Permit virtual drawing will be broadcast live at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 13. Visit mefishwildlife.com and fill out the online moose permit application. The deadline to apply for the lottery is 11:59 p.m. on May 14.
Turkey hunting — Maine’s turkey season will open two days early and will also suspend the requirement to register harvested turkeys. The regular season for all turkey hunters will start Saturday, May 2, instead of Monday, May 4. The season will conclude as scheduled on June 6, 2020.
