In recognizing the challenging times facing the residents of Mapleton, Castle Hill, and Chapman, the Mapleton Lions Club has decided to provide a FREE drive-through style, traditional Baked Bean Supper for area folks.
The club had to cancel our annual dinner and auction scheduled for May 2nd, so the members decided to offer a free dinner at 4 p.m. on May 9 instead as a way to cheer up our communities during these trying times.
Club members will be preparing the dinner at the Mapleton Lions Hall. Under the guidance of Lion Bob McBay, owner of the Mapleton Diner, the hall’s kitchen will be completely sanitized following CDC rules and Maine food preparation regulations. Members will be appropriately masked and gloved as they transfer the packed meals to those driving through the serving line.
The menu will consist of ham, baked beans, potato salad, cole slaw, a roll, and a drink. For those driving through, the Mapleton Lions Club asks folks to follow these simple rules: 1. Enter the serving line on the west side of the Mapleton Lions Hall; 2. No one is to exit their vehicle; 3. A choice of beverage will be allowed; 4. Meals will be handed through the car window; 5. One meal will be provided for each vehicle occupant; and 6. Vehicles will exit on the east side of the hall on to Main Street.
No walk-ups or eating on the premises will be allowed. Meals will be hot, prepacked and provided to each person in the vehicle. Everyone is welcome to come and receive a hot meal free of charge.
Trails
With the change of seasons, the Chapman Ridge Runners Snowmobile and ATV Club announced last week that all ATV trails are closed as mud season has arrived. The club recognizes the landowners’ concerns for their property. The landowners want to avoid damage to their property by ATV machines driven on the trail before they are open for use.
The club wants riders to know that many of the trails available through the generosity of the landowners. Courtesy shown to landowners at this time encourages landowners to allow the continued use of the trials across their properties. Unnecessary property damage by a few may lead to all riders being denied access to the trails.
Generally the trails open about May 15th each year. The club asks that riders please wait until a notice is given.
Senior luncheons
The Mapleton, Chapman and Castle Hill Senior Citizens group will not have a scheduled luncheon meeting until June.
