Help during crisis — In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, Aroostook Mental Health Center will participate with Cary Medical Center’s Healthy You program on a variety of Community Chat conversations to help people struggling with COVID-19. A wide variety of mental health topics will be covered and available on the Healthy You YouTube channel at carymedicalcenter.org/healthyyou and through Healthy You and AMHC social media. Veterans Cemetery ceremony — The Maine Veterans Cemetery Committee, in light of guidance on COVID-19 prevention, has canceled the annual Avenue of Flags and Memorial Day events at the cemetery in Caribou this year. The flags on the Avenue of Flags were raised on May 11, and the committee hopes to open the events to the public again next year.
Relay for Life — Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Relay For Life has canceled June live events across Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts. Aroostook Relay for Life will join many other groups on Sunday, June 7, in a virtual Relay for Life experience called Hope From Home. The online event will feature a mix of live and pre-recorded segments, plus prompts to post comments, photos and videos. Youth novena — Aware of the challenges young adults are facing during this time of pandemic, the Diocese of Portland’s Office of Lifelong Faith Formation has crafted a novena for young adults. The novena runs Friday, May 22, through Saturday, May 30. Register online at www.portlanddiocese.org/content/novena-young-adults.
Memorial Day service — Memorial Day Mass will be live-streamed at 9 a.m. on Monday, May 25, with Bishop Robert Deeley. All are welcome to participate from home via livestream facebook.com/PortlandCathedral or portlandiocese.org/online-Mass.
Food webinars — The University of Maine Cooperative Extension will launch a food preservation webinar series at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 26. “Preserving the Maine Harvest” begins with freezing fiddleheads and making refrigerator spring pickles. The 45-minute sessions will continue through October, and include discussion and demonstration. A $5 donation is suggested for each session but not required.
