CARIBOU, Maine — Alya Theriault of Caribou, a senior at Caribou High School, has been selected to receive the 2020 Principal’s Award, Principal Travis Barnes announced recently.

The award, sponsored by the Maine Principals’ Association, is given in recognition of a high school senior’s academic achievement and citizenship.

“Alya exemplifies all of the qualifications of this award,” said Barnes.  “Students from high schools around the state are recognized with the MPA Principal’s Award and Alya ranks amongst them all.  She is a distinguished leader at Caribou HS both in the classroom and on the playing field.  She demonstrates solid ethics, leadership ability and strong academic achievement while at Caribou HS.”

Barnes added, “She is active in her community and has the qualities of strong citizenship because of her moral compass.  I am proud that Alya will receive this award for the Class of 2020 at Caribou HS.”

Though the annual Honors Luncheon was canceled this year, Principal’s Award recipients will receive an MPA pin, an individual plaque and be eligible for seven $1,000 scholarships in the names of former Maine principals and MPA executive directors: Horace O. McGowan, Richard W. Tyler, and Richard A. Durost.  Three additional $1,000 scholarships will be presented through the partnership with Berlin City Auto Group’s Drive for Education.

The Principal’s Award is presented in more than 100 Maine public and private high schools by member principals of the MPA, the professional association which represents Maine’s school administrators.
