HOULTON, Maine — A man in Silver Ridge Township was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries after swerving his vehicle to avoid hitting a moose, Maine State Police said.
Henry Spurlock, 39, of Silver Ridge was traveling eastward on Pond Road in the town at around 2 p.m. on May 25, when he suddenly saw a moose on the road and swerved his vehicle, a 1994 Mazda pickup that was towing a small utility trailer to avoid the animal, according to the police report.
Spurlock then lost control of the vehicle as it rolled onto its side and struck a rock, finally coming to rest in a forested area.
Following officers’ arrival onto the scene, Spurlock was transported to Millinocket Regional Hospital by a Patten ambulance to have his injuries treated, police said.
Spurlock was wearing his seatbelt.
