PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The Presque Isle Regional Career and Technical Center has announced Izabelle Higgins as the CTE Student of the Year.
Higgins is currently serving as the FFA chapter president and is a second-year student in AgriScience.
Officials describe her as “a motivated student and a wonderful asset to our FFA chapter.”
Higgins has earned a chapter degree this year, has fulfilled the requirements for her state degree and earned a proficiency award for her Ag Processing entrepreneurship SAE, which began as an Agricultural Sales CDE and has developed into a profitable and sustainable small business. She is running for Maine State FFA Office.
Faculty say she demonstrates strong, positive leadership skills and has a pleasant, enthusiastic demeanor, adding Higgins has taken great initiative in enhancing her FFA experience and creating opportunities for others to do the same. An enthusiastic participant in all program activities, she has assisted with middle school meetings, helped with a leadership workshop, implemented and conducted a successful stew night/silent auction and competed successfully at both the state and national levels.
Higgins is active in her 4-H Club and conducts horseback riding lessons for younger children, as well as maintaining an active schedule of riding and showing horses. She has competed on the Maine Equestrian Team at the Big E twice.
She is also a successful alpine skier, a member of the Presque Isle High School Ski Team and has competed at the state level.
An excellent student, she is a member of the National Honor Society and maintains a 90.8788 cumulative grade point average.
As a result of her work in FFA, Higgins has recently been named Outstanding Officer for the 2019-2020 school year and president-elect for the 2020-2021 school year. Because of all of these factors and many more, the PIRCTC chose her as Student of the Year.
