Rotary welcomes District 7810’s 2013-14 governor

  Pat Berry, 2013-14 governor of Rotary District 7810, attended the July 10 meeting of the Washburn Rotary Club, along with Floyd Rockholt of the Presque Isle Rotary Club, the new assistant District Governor for the local area. District 7810 includes Rotary clubs in northern Maine and all of New Brunswick. Pat is from Miramichi, N.B. Pat spoke to the club on behalf of Rotary International, with an emphasis on Rotary’s Polio Plus program, which is working to eliminate polio from the planet. Pat also worked alongside the Washburn Rotarians at their recent truck/tractor pull.
Quilt Show and Tea
The Salmon Brook Historical Society in Washburn is having a quilt show and tea at the museum on Sunday, Aug. 4.
Only 50 tickets are available for pre-sale at the cost of $10. Settings are for 1 and 2:30 p.m. Come have a cup of tea and refreshment and view beautiful quilts, many of which are antiques. Also on display will be Lila Flewelling’s embroidered generational quilt.

ATV Club events
There will be a Club Ride on Saturday, July 27, on the Easton/Mars Hill borderline trail. They will be leaving the clubhouse at  8 a.m. Bring a trailside lunch or purchase a Subway sandwich at the gas station and have lunch at the park in Mars Hill and then head out around the backside of Mars Hill Mountain and then head down the border to Easton and back to Presque Isle. The group should be back to the Washburn clubhouse sometime after 5 p.m.
Thursday, Aug. 1 there will be a potluck barbecue/meeting at the ATV clubhouse on Gould Street. The club supplies hotdogs and burgers and asks that you bring a side dish. Potluck starts at 6 p.m. and the meeting is at 6:30 p.m. The main agenda will be to plan for the Washburn August Festival (parade and food booth), club rides and a September donation hotdog roast.
On Saturday, Aug. 3, there will be a club barbecue at Joyce’s camp seven miles up on the Gardner Creek Road. Party starts at 5 p.m. and the club will be supplying the grill items and ask that you please bring a side dish or a dessert.
Campfire to follow and please bring a chair if you have one. Rain date will be Saturday, Aug. 10.
