HOULTON, Maine — Just two days shy of the official first day of summer, much of Aroostook County was facing a heat wave June 18 and 19 as temperatures soared into the 90s.
According to the National Weather Service office in Caribou, record highs were expected at some sites across northern Maine Thursday and Friday as the temperature was forecast in the 90s for all of Aroostook County.

Caribou’s record high temperature for June 18 was 90 degrees set in 1950, while Houlton’s record high temperature was 92 degrees set in 1955.
In addition, record high temperatures for June 19 could also be broken as the current records are: Caribou, 91 degrees set in 1995, and Houlton, 92 degrees set in 1995.
