PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — A woman stole a truck with a golden retriever in it from the Tractor Supply Co. parking lot in Presque Isle and proceeded to crash it in Limestone on Sunday, Aug. 9, police said.
Around 11:40 a.m., Presque Isle Police said it received a report that a woman was yelling that she was going into labor in the parking lot of the Aroostook Regional Transportation building at 24 Houlton Road.
When officers and medics got to the scene, the woman was not in the parking lot. She had crossed the street to Tractor Supply Co., where she proceeded to steal a truck that had a golden retriever in it from the parking lot. A man had left the truck unlocked and running because it was a hot day and his dog was inside the vehicle.
Officers located the truck in Limestone, where the woman had abandoned the vehicle after crashing it. Police said they found the woman who had committed the theft and the dog near the site of the crash. Police said the woman and dog were uninjured in the crash.
When police spotted her, the woman was screaming for help because she said she had given birth. The woman had not given birth and was not pregnant, authorities said.
Authorities transported the woman to Cary Medical Center in Caribou and returned the dog to its owner. Police said drugs were an “aggravating factor” in the woman’s behavior and that charges were pending.
A representative of Tractor Supply Co. declined to comment on the incident.
