HOULTON, Maine — The Houlton Police Department will host a bicycle giveaway event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 29, at the Houlton Shooting Range storage building in the Industrial Park.
All of the bicycles available are unclaimed property that the police department has recovered over the past several years.
“Our goal is to spread these bikes out within the community members in need of a bicycle considering the shortage resulting from COVID-19,” said Houlton Police Chief Tim DeLuca. “The bikes are in a variety of conditions therefore inspection and service is recommended before use.”
Bikes will be released one per person, but accommodations will be made for families. Also, some of the bicycles have been deemed “parts only.” All of the bikes are on a first-come, first-served basis.
In year’s past, the bicycles were sold, but this year HSC Auctions has purchased all of the bikes at $10 each and is donating them to the public as a community donation. Those attending the event are required to wear masks and maintain social distancing, police said.
