HOULTON, Maine — I would like to tell you a story about a small black kitten, about 4-months old, that started showing up at a house in town every day.
The lady figured out she must have been a homeless stray and messaged us. I asked if the kitten was there then and she said yes. At about 9 p.m. I set out to get her. They left the porch light on and waited for me.
When I pulled up the kitten came running to me, I scooped her up and took her to The Ark. She clearly had been around people, she had no fear and was very affectionate. But why was she out at night like that all by herself and why did she keep returning to this one house every day?
Clearly she was looking for food and some humans to call her own. A small kitten like that should never be left outside especially at night. We fixed a room for her at the Ark and she ate like she had never seen food before. She couldn’t wait for us to come to her room so she could love on us. Her favorite spot is jumping up on your back while you are cleaning her litter box. This cat has personality plus. She would make someone the perfect cat, her only requirement is a human that loves to snuggle.
After three weeks, no one has come forth to claim her so now she officially belongs to The Ark. We can’t help but wonder where this girl came from and why no one is missing her. Did someone just drop her off to fend for herself or did she wander away from home and couldn’t find her way back?
In my mind I would love to think that she scooted out an open door and got lost. That she had humans that loved her very much and are missing her. But if that were the case they would have been out looking for her, there would have been posts on Facebook with her picture asking for help locating her. We would have received a phone call alerting us to the fact that she was missing.
Sadly none of that has happened, so now “Sprite” is looking for a home. A place that she will be safe and happy. A place where she will get plenty of attention and whatever she needs. A place where she will never spend her nights outdoors and a place where she will never have to look for food. The home that every cat deserves full of love and cuddles.
